Established: 2004

Since 2004, Home from Home Care Ltd (HFHC) has developed specialist residential care homes for adults with learning disabilities and complex support needs. HFHC has created Micro Communities where small groups of compatible individuals can live together. Outward facing to the wider community, these Micro Communities incorporate different Care Quality Commission (CQC) registered residential services and a Community ‘Hub’. The Hub includes an activity centre and sensory room and can be used by residents from across all HFHC’s Micro Communities as well as individuals living in the wider community. In 2015/16, HFHC built two new Specialist Integration Homes (SIHs). Each individual has their own self-contained one-bedroom apartment which links into shared communal space, which they can choose to access, or not, on their own terms. This level of personalisation with its exceptional environments and care and support offers pathways out of institutional care for adults with very complex needs. This allows them the opportunity to reach their potential and have ‘life on their terms’. This report was produced for the Social Stock Exchange Annual Research Book 2017. All Street on Check4Cancer:

Read the Research Snapshot below or access the full report.

The company

  • Check4Cancer carries out cancer screening tests for corporate and private customers covering 88% of all incidences in the UK. The company wants to diversify into diagnostics services for corporate clients, cooperation with cancer treatment clinics and insurance companies.
  • Its mission is to become the market leader for premium early cancer detection services for corporate clients and individuals.
  • The company estimates its UK market at £390 million, with the US and European markets at £1.4 billion and £2.3 billion respectively. The company is already active in all three.

Deal information

  • The campaign aims to raise £500,000 for 9.26% equity through Syndicate Room. The company predicts 3-5x return on investment within 3 years.

What we think

  • Supported by experienced angel investors, the company should benefit from their network to support client acquisition, financial management and exit negotiations.
  • Although the company is in early stage with modest revenues at this point, it appears to have a first mover position for many of the services provided, at least in the UK.
  • However, turning this into a sustainable advantage could prove challenging given the modest capital level available and pace of expansion reliant on generating positive cash flow for reinvestment.
